I've created a version of it thats slightly less buggy, (keeps the way it takes two letters at a time, but shows them if only one is inputed) if you want it. I'm taking it that you have the more commonly spread Italian Hero Name Fix.

Here you go, if I remember correctly the Power Fashion 2003 Patch allows for removal of autobattle. If I don't remember correctly, you could track down the elusive Cherry and ask him if he will create a patch for you that removes it. And if that doesn't work then I'll make one for you.
